Free food will be handed out Nov. 30

USDA food commodities will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 30 at Church of God, 2180 NW 12th Ave., Crystal River; and the Vineyard, 960 S U.S. 41, Inverness.
Applicants must bring picture identification, proof of income and provide the last four numbers of their Social Security number. Call 795-3079 or 726-1480.
Veterans to consider officers, bylaw changes
LECANTO - The Citrus County Veterans Coalition will meet at 10 a.m. Dec. 3 at the Lecanto Government Building, 3600 W Sovereign Path. The agenda includes nominations for officer and director positions and discussion of amendments to the bylaws.
Money available to build rentals
County funds are available for new construction of rental developments that benefit low-income households in Citrus County. The income limits are published annually by the Florida Housing Corporation.
The amount of funds available for rental development is $150,000. The activities must conform to the Citrus County State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program - Local Housing Assistance Plan. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Dec. 16.

Workshop guides aspiring stargazers
OCALA - Tim Major and Kenneth King, co-founders of the Greater Ocala Astronomy Club, will conduct a workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Marion County Public Library, 2720 E Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, meeting Room C. Agency reaching out to prevent hunger
WILDWOOD - Now that the holiday season is here, more than 170 people per day in the Florida Department of Children and Families District 13, which includes Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion and Sumter counties, seek financial assistance and food stamps for their families. Of those, it is estimated that close to 68 percent apply online via DCF's Access Florida Web site www.myflorida.com/accessflorida
DCF wants residents to know there is no reason why anyone should go hungry this holiday season. For those who do not have a computer at home, computer access is available at county libraries, the DCF service center and DCF community partner sites. Apply online or call 1-866-762-2237 toll-free for information.
