TAMPA - A boater in an inflatable craft led Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies, a helicopter and MacDill Air Force patrol boat on a chase from the Apollo Beach area coast to a residential canal in St. Petersburg before the boater's arrest on Saturday night.

A sheriff's deputy with the marine unit attempted to stop Nathan O. Miller, 29, for a safety check in Tampa Bay about 11 p.m. Miller fled and eluded deputies, authorities said. A helicopter was called and kept Miller in sight.

Deputies said Miller was boxed into a residential canal, where he was arrested and transported to the Orient Road Jail.

Miller, of 3218 San Pedro St., Tampa, was charged with fleeing and eluding deputies, which is a felony, and operating a boat under the influence.
