HARDY, RUTH T., 84, of Crystal River, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home. She came here 24 years ago from Palmyra, N.Y., and was an accounting clerk for 18 years for Mobile Oil Co., New York. She was a former owner/operator of the Beverly Hills Florist and member of the WOTM 1434. She was Protestant. Survivors include her husband, Robert; a son, Gregg, Hector, N.Y.; three daughters, Gloria Ferguson, Crystal River, Ramona Murphy, Ocala, and Cheryl Theriault, Warren, R.I.; two stepchildren, Keith, Shortville, N.Y., and Kathy Belmonte, Chicago,; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. MANKOWSKI, WALTER P. "SHORTY," 91, of Floral City, formerly of Port Richey, died Sunday (June 11, 2000). Born in Gaylord, Mich., he came here 14 years ago from Port Richey and was a factory worker for Snap-On-Tools. He was a member of St. Mary's Lutheran Church, Kenosha, Wis., and active in A.A. for 47 years. BROKER, HAROLD F., 71, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he came here 39 years ago from Akron, Ohio, and was an engineer for Honeywell Aerospace. He was Lutheran. He was an Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; four sons, Michael, Seattle, Ronald, Spring Hill, Larry, Brooksville, and Steven, Interlachen; two sisters, Emily Smith, Pinellas County, and Agnes Nielson, Port St. Lucie; and seven grandchildren. NORTHROP, LOUIS, 87, of Spring Hill, died Monday (June 12, 2000). Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he came here three years ago from Stratford, Conn., and was a vending machine owner and operator. OLANDER, JOHN C. "JACK," 61, of Brooksville, formerly of Largo and Seminole, died Sunday (June 11, 2000). He moved to Largo in 1977 from his native Connecticut and later lived in Seminole, moving to Brooksville in 1980. He was an insurance agent for Aetna in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Hernando counties for 23 years. He was a Navy veteran, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. RIDDLE, BARBARA, 71, of Masaryktown, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home. Born in Antrim, Mich., she came here 23 years ago from Mancelona, Mich. She was a retired produce vendor at the Airport Flea Market and member of the Masaryktown Community Center Bingo Association. She was Baptist. FLOYD, ERNEST "ERNIE," 76, of Tampa, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home under the care of LifePath Hospice. Born in Anniston, Ala., he came here in 1950 from North Carolina. He was a truck driver for C.F. Industries. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart after the D-day invasion at Utah Beach. He was Baptist. GUY, MURIEL A., 73, of Plant City, died Sunday (June 11, 2000). Born in Madison, Ark., she came here in 1963 from Memphis, Tenn. She was an acetylene operator for Liquid Air Corp. in Tampa for 38 years. HULL, WILBUR W., 69, of Tampa, died Friday (June 9, 2000) at University Community Hospital. Born in Warren, Pa., he came here in 1946 from Ohio. He was a theater maintenance worker. POWERS, DONALD RAY, 56, of Inglis, formerly of Tampa, died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at home. Born in LaGrange, Ga., he had lived here since 1965 before moving to Inglis a year ago. He was an electrician for Tampa Electric Co. for 20 years. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 424, where he was a past commander, and he was a member of Post 8698 in Inglis. He received the Purple Heart while serving with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. SNYDER, ROBERT J., 75, of Brooksville, formerly of Tampa, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at home. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he moved to Brooksville 30 years ago from Tampa and was an automobile mechanic. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Pasco County, a recipient of the Horton Smith Award, chairman of the North Florida Junior Golf for 11 years, and co-founder of the Tri-County Junior Golf Association. Born in Detroit, he came here 17 years ago from Romeo, Mich., and was a professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was Protestant. He was a member of the Masons. Survivors include his wife, Bettie M.; a son, Bruce H., Michigan; three daughters, Gail L. Moehlman and Joy C. Smith, both of Michigan, and Jill M. MILLER, SHIRLEY JANET COOK, 86, of San Antonio, died Monday (June 12, 2000). Born in Massachusetts, she came here 84 years ago. She was a homemaker and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, San Antonio. She was also a member of the Tampa Bay Dog Club, the Piecemakers' Quilting Club, the Wally Bayam (WBCCI), and the Pasco Historical Society. She was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, Abba Farms, and the Humana Hospital, Dade City. WHORF, DOROTHEA C., 80, of New Port Richey, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home. Born in Providence, R.I., she came here seven years ago from Tarpon Springs. She was a retired secretary and library technician for Wyman School and Tollgate High School, Warwick, R.I., with 20 years of service. She was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its women's group, Tarpon Springs. He was an electrical engineer and worked 30 years for Honeywell Corp. in Minneapolis and Clearwater. He was an Army radar officer veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clearwater and Honeywell Retirees and Minnregs. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis J.; a son, Donald E., Bloomington, Minn.; a daughter, Suzanne A., Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Lloyd, St. Paul; a sister, Lorraine Wackerfuss, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; and two granddaughters. - NISBETT, DAVID KEITH II, 19, of Clearwater, died Friday (June 9, 2000) in an automobile accident south of Venice, Fla. He was born in Washington, D.C., and came here in 1994 from Riverdale, Md. He graduated in 1998 from Countryside High School, Clearwater, where he played junior varsity and varsity football and received the Cougar of the Year award. He was master of ceremonies for the Lip Sinc at Countryside High. He was a sophomore at University of South Florida, Tampa, and pledged to Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity where he was voted Brother of the Year for 1999. He worked for Service Merchandise and was number 11 in the district for sales volume. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Brentwood, Md. - POPIK, JOHN, 68, of Clearwater, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Johnson City, N.Y., and came here in 1994 from Londonderry, N.H. He retired after 28 years in the Army with the rank of chief warrant officer and he worked nine years as a civilian employee of the Air Force Level III Acquisition Logistics. - JOHNSON, GENE E., 71, of Lakeland, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) at Westminster Shores Health Center, St. Petersburg. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he came here in 1956 from Ohio and moved to Lakeland in April. After a head injury froma fall, he was treated in Lakeland hospitals and Bayfront Medical Center and was moved to Westminster Shores for care by his personal physician, his wife said. He was a bridge tender for the Florida Department of Transportation. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Myrna; three sons, James E., Tampa, Robert J. Burns, Seminole, and Richard A. Burns, St. Petersburg; two daughters, Pamela J. Taylor, Tampa, and Kelli J. Love, St. Petersburg; a brother, James H.; Cincinnati; and three grandchildren. - NORTON, GEORGE E., 92, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. Born in Boston, he came here in 1986 from Plainfield, N.H. He was a trackless trolley operator with the Boston Transit Authority. He was an Army veteran who served with the Medical Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary; two sons, Edward G., Framingham, Mass., and Thomas M., West Lebanon, N.H.; a daughter, Suzanne Combs, Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. - OVERLEY, RONALD E., 66, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home. He was a native and lifetime resident of the St. Petersburg area. He was a 21-year veteran as a detective sergeant, retiring from the St. Petersburg Police Department. He was a member and past board member of the Pass-a-Grille Beach Yacht Club, and was a member of the American Legion in Gulfport. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Mary L.; two daughters, Lori Anne Overley, St. Petersburg, and Kimberly B. - SKIBENES, CRAIG G., 44, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (June 10, 2000) at St. Petersburg General Hospital. He was born in Wisconsin and came here in 1979 from Houston. He was a graduate of Florida Beacon College, Orlando, and was an ordained minister. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a former professional bull rider and a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. Survivors include his wife, Tanna; seven daughters, Christina Francescutti, North Carolina, Heather Skibenes, Tallahassee, Jessica Skibenes, Zephyrhills, and Amanda, Amy, Amber and Autumn Skibenes, all of St. Petersburg; a son, James, St. Petersburg; his father, Rod, Oregon; and two grandchildren. - WOLFE, WILLIAM L. "BUD," 79, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at Colonial Care Center. He came here in 1967 from his native Columbus, Ohio. He was a color coordinator at The St. Petersburg Times, retiring in 1981 after 17 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of St. Vincent's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Ruth; a son, Donald, Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Christine Wolfe, Kenneth City; a sister, Barbara Williams, Indianapolis; and two grandchildren.
