Report: Rick Baker said to exaggerate black pastor endorsements
Publisher Gypsy Gallardo writes that the Rick Baker mayoral campaign may have inflated his considerable support among African-American pastors in St. Pete:
"...What Baker’s endorsement boils down to is about 23 black St. Petersburg-based pastors who may have endorsed him, some formally (e.g., Pastor Frank Peterman, Jr.) and some possibly informally.
It’s hard to say without speaking with each of them individually, which is how it came to me that one Pastor Ron Gibson, shepherd of 18-years at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, had not endorsed Baker, and was surprised to see his name printed, especially since he’s leaning toward supporting Rick Kriseman...."
From Baker campaign director Nick Hansen: "We are thankful to have the overwhelming support of the leadership and people of our community. If any one was incorrectly identified as part of our growing supporter list we will modify the list accordingly. No one in the almost two weeks since the list went out has asked to be removed. We will continue to move forward with the work to represent all of St. Petersburg and build a seamless city."
