Shopping Planner: Make and Take Valentines, Hello Kitty Cafe Truck and Ashe Couture Grand Re-Opening

Who Loves Ya? Valentine’s Day Make and Takes
I suspect that most Valentine’s Day gifts are bought last minute, even though the stores have been full of heart-shaped items since Dec. 26. If you haven’t gotten your boo anything yet, you’re probably not alone. This year, why not make your gift? A few places around the area can help you be creatively thoughtful.

For kid-friendly activities, Great Explorations Children’s Museum in St. Petersburg is having a “Hearts and Crafts” day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Activities include making an “I’m in your heart” picture frame and origami hearts. Included with admission, $10, $9 seniors, children one and younger free. 1925 Fourth St. N.
In Safety Harbor, Practically Pikasso is having a Daddy Daughter Clay Date from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, to make a clay heart dish (for Mom, maybe?) that will be fired and available in two weeks. $18 per couple, $10 each additional child. 500 Main St.

Want to write a love letter or poem that tops any card in the drugstore? Come to the Letter Writing Social: Love Letters and Poems workshop at The Paper Seahorse in Tampa from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Presented by the Tampa Letter Writers Club, this free event will guide you in expressing your love in words. Come early and make a Valentine to tuck that letter in. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring snacks and supplies. 211 S Howard Ave.

Love to sip and paint? Join artist Shawn Dell Joyce at Dunedin’s Beach House Gallery on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. as she leads you through creating a sweet painting of flamingos in love. It’s $30 per person and includes all supplies, snacks and drinks. RSVP to or call (727)216-6322 to reserve your space. 638 Skinner Blvd.

Celebrate Galentine’s Day with your favorite girlfriends and create a painting at Wine & Design in Largo for $25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday. Couples can create a “Love” diptych together as their Valentine’s date night for $50, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Those events are BYOB. 14219 Walsingham Road.

Cuteness Overload: Hello Kitty Cafe Truck
I can almost hear the collective, “OMG” and squealing when little and big girls — and boys, for that matter — see the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck pulled up to Tampa’s International Plaza and Bay Street on Saturday. What is the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck? It is an uber-cute pink van that houses even cuter Hello Kitty treats, including a three-piece Hello Kitty cookie set, a rainbow macaron box set that includes a surprise Sanrio character design, a four-pack of mini cakes, and bow-shaped bottles of water. In addition to the goodies, a Hello Kitty Cafe mug, a pink Hello Kitty Cafe
T-shirt and the pop icon’s signature bow headband will also be available to purchase. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Bay Street across from Urban Outfitters. 2223 N West Shore Blvd.

New Digs: Ashe Couture Grand Re-Opening
Help chic St. Pete boutique Ashe Couture celebrate their second birthday at their new location, 1027 Central Ave., just a few doors down from their old spot. They'll fete the occasion today from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Pop in to shop new arrivals, including swimwear (spring's coming, ya'll), and enjoy storewide sales, champagne and desserts. The first 20 customers each day to spend $75 will receive a special gift bag valued at over $100, which includes a cool Billabong cosmetic bag. If you have never shopped at Ashe Couture, get ready to be impressed. Their selection is on point and the customer service is exceptional.
