Shopping Planner: Strands of Sunshine's shop dog turns 12, and you can find unique frames at Optik frames
Dog Party: Oscar’s Birthday Celebration
If you’ve ever visited Strands of Sunshine in downtown St. Pete, it’s likely you’ve met Oscar, the shop dog. The shih tzu-poodle mix is pretty famous: He has his own Instagram (@shopdogoscar) and was also featured in Keep St. Pete Local’s pet calendar a few years back. The little cutie is turning 12, and to celebrate, owner Amy Marshall is throwing him a Pawsome Birthday party on Saturday. The shop carries all kinds of adorable pet-related stuff, including doggie bow ties, cat toys and animal art, not to mention their air plants, unique greeting cards and other sparkly treasures. They’ll have doggie treats and a raffle for prizes. A portion of all sales will benefit Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue, which will be at the party with a few chihuahuas. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 633 Central Ave. strandsofsunshine.com.
For Eyes: Optik European Eyewear
If you’re in the market for a new pair of frames, Optik European Eyewear opened on St. Petersburg’s Beach Drive in January. Owners Anja and Edin Jakupovic aim to create a place where one could find truly unique ones. Their Optik line, with bright colors, multilayer patterns and unique shapes, is handmade in Germany and is exclusive to the boutique. Anja is also a licensed optician, and as part of the effort to keep things individual, each piece of Optik Frames is made only one time. The inventory keeps to 500 frames or less. 300 Beach Drive.
