Even if you're staying home this holiday season, there's a good chance you're going to be asked to pick someone up at the airport. And there's a good chance that's not going to be as simple as it sounds.

With that in mind, Macworld put together a nifty list of the best flight-tracking apps for your iPhone or iPad. They got pretty hardcore, too, listing about seven criteria they considered, and breaking the results down by recommendations for frequent flyers, for airport pickup duties and for … well, people who just enjoy tracking flights, I guess.

I don't fly much, myself, so I was glad to see their pick was the same as mine for the app best suited for those of us who spend most of our airport time in the cell phone lot — Just Landed ($2). It's for iPhone only, but basically you tell it what flight it is you're meeting, allow it access to your current location. The app keeps an eye out for changes to the flight's arrival time and traffic conditions between you and the airport and tells you when to hit the road to minimize the idle time for everyone involved. It's elegant in its design and interface — it looks beautiful, and won't run your battery down like some GPS-based apps do.
