'Broad City' really wants to shoot an episode at Publix
Was it the subs? The fried chicken tenders? The fried chicken tender subs, perhaps?
Whatever it was, the Comedy Central series Broad City apparently loves our region's beloved grocery chain, Publix, and would like to shoot an episode in one of their stores (psst, there's a really fresh, new one in downtown St. Pete, guys).
The verified Broad City account tweeted at Publix this week, calling the store "amazing," and racked up more than 2,500 likes in 24 hours, plus an avalanche of comments from excited fans that can mostly be paraphrased as some form of "Yas!" or perhaps "Yas, queen!!"
hi @Publix we love u please let us shoot in ur amazing grocery store PUHLEASE xo?! DM us— Broad City (@broadcity) April 13, 2017
When the verified Publix account sent back a tweet asking them to go through corporate channels, Broad City's account replied with this:
So many questions! Like how exactly is the most New York-ish show to ever New York going to end up sending Abby and Ilana to a Publix? Are they headed south next season? And if they are headed south, how could it not be to Florida? And if it's Florida, how could it not be the Tampa Bay area??
We are talking about a comedy series here, guys. What part of this state offers more joke fodder than us.
"We receive these types of requests with some frequency, but typically do not participate,'' Publix spokesman Brian West responded. "Our first concern is for our customers and associates, and these requests create distractions and hinderances from their shopping experience."
But watch out Publix. If you're not going to jump on this opportunity, it sounds like Lucky's Market is ready to go. They already responded with their own tweet.

Season 4 of Broad City, starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson is set to premiere this August. If you've never seen the show, here's a taste of their sensibility.
