What to watch this week: 'The Sinner' on USA, 'Siesta Key' on MTV
By now you probably know MTV shot a reality series on the No. 1 beach in America. Siesta Key, debuting at 10 tonight, follows a group of young adults as they navigate life in their early 20s over a summer in sunny Florida.
The Times previously reported that the mastermind behind this new show is Dr. Gary Kompothecras of 1-800-Ask-Gary. His son, Alex, is the star of the show, and much of the action in the series' first episode happens inside and out of Kompothecras' mansion on the beach. Kompothecras even makes a few cameos.
In the premiere, cast member Juliette Porter calls Siesta Key "our secret paradise" where there is "a lot of money and even more drama."
Local premiere party for Siesta Key canceled amid death threats
On the eve of the premiere for MTV's reality show Siesta Key, a local screening party was canceled. Dr. Gary Kompothecras, a Sarasota chiropractor known for his medical referral service 1-800-Ask-Gary, confirmed that the party scheduled for tonight at CineBistro in Sarasota was canceled because his son and series star, Alex Kompothecras, had received death threats, among other reasons. The show has led to a social media backlash.
