For starters: Rays at Angels, with Jake Faria starting in his hometown



UPDATE, 8:02: Several Rays said they will miss OF/DH Colby Rasmus, who the team said on Thursday decided to "step away" from the game, but were happy for him that he made a decision he is comfortable with.

.Cash said Beckham (left ankle sprain) remains on track to be activated Sunday but they would have to see how the next two games go.

Cash said Faria earned the right to start the first game out of the break, but said they also liked the idea of giving Cobb and Archer and extra day. ... Ex-Ray Nick Franklin, acquired recently by the Angels after being dropped by the Brewers, is starting at 2B.

DEVELOPING:  After rolling into the All-Star break by taking three of four from the AL East-leading Red Sox, the Rays are set to resume play tonight in Anaheim against the Angels, first pitch 10:07.

The Rays will start rookie sensation Jake Faria, who grew up minutes from Angel Stadium and attended hundreds of games here but had never been on the field before Friday.

While he expects to have close to 200 relatives and friends in the stands, he also wiill be welcomed home by Angels star Mike Trout, who is returning to duty after six plus weeks on the DL with a thumb injury.

The Rays have All-Star Corey Dickerson at DH tonight, and Brad Miller at 2B. Tim Beckham is expected to come off the DL on Sunday.
