For starters: Rays at Red Sox, with Archer on the hill



UPDATE, 6:14: Rays manager Kevin Cash said they have no concerns or limits on Archer tonight, in essence they are trusting him that he feels good and expect him to have a normal start. ... Cash and several players acknowledged the concerns they have about the storm have to be balanced with the task of playing the games. ... RHP Jake Odorizzi will start Sunday, with RHP Alex Cobb pushed back a day to Monday vs. the Yankees to give him extra time for the small cut/blister on one of his fingers to heal. ... LHP Xavier Cedeno (forearm) and RHP Nathan Eovaldi (Tommy John surgery) were flying from Boston to Chattanooga, Tenn., on Friday night to make rehab appearances on Saturday for Double-A Montgomery with the goal of returning to the majors later this month. .. Cash said they feel they have better matchups with lefty hitters vs. Red Sox LHP Pomeranz.

DEVELOPING: With their minds understandably on the potential impact of Hurricane Irma, the Rays nevertheless have a game to play tonight, and an important one, as most of the remaining games will be, against the AL East leading Red Sox.

RHP Chris Archer will be on the mound for the Rays, an unexpected development given that he walked off the mound last Saturday with tightness in his right forearm.

While the Rays are obviously happy to have their top starter on the mound, there is the little matter of his past struggles against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are slated to start LHP Drew Pomeranz, though the Rays are going with most of their lefty hitters. 1B Logan Morrison, who was not in the lineup the previous two games due to a stomach flu, is back.
