Rays Rule 5 pick Kevin Gadea sidelined with elbow issue
RHP Kevin Gadea, the Rule 5 draft pick from Seattle, has a sore elbow and expects to be sidelined at least a month.
Gadea said he had an MRI, was examined by team orthopedist Dr. Koco Eaton and diagnosed with tendinitis.
The Rays were in the process of returning Gadea to the Mariners, putting him on waivers and then once he cleared offering him back, when he reported the elbow soreness.
Though sidelined, Gadea, who pitched at Class A last year, will get the benefit of major-league service time and pay when he ends up on the DL. By putting him on the 60-day DL, the Rays will be able to use his roster spot.
