Tim Beckham activated by Rays, Taylor Featherston optioned to Durham
The Rays activated INF Tim Beckham off the disabled list for Sunday's game and made room by optioning INF Taylor Featherston to Triple-A Durham.
Beckham went on the DL due to a left ankle sprain that had been an issue on and off for several weeks, and by working around the All-Star break he missed only six games. Featherston, acquired from the Phillies Triple-A team on June 9, was essentially replaced when Brad Miller came back July 7 but got to stick around another week until Beckham returned.
Featherston hit .184 over 16 games with sporadic playing time.
"Taylor did a really nice job for us,'' manager Kevin Cash said. "For a guy thay we knew nothing about, was not from our organization and we acquired him, that's not the easiest thing to come in here and get along with the new teammates and kind of buy into that culture and that chemistry and he was outstanding. We're very appreciative of his efforts. And we know he's a good player, he helped us win some games.''
Beckham was shifted from shortstop to second base after the Rays acquired Adeiny Hechavarria from the Marlins June 26. He is expected to primarily play second, sharing some time with Miller, and getting a day or two a week at short in place of Hechavarria.
