Hymn For Her

Over the years, a handful of Tampa Bay bands have played major music festivals like Bonnaroo and South by Southwest. But few bands have ever booked a gig like this one.

Eclectic Sarasota Americana duo Hymn For Her, frequent performers in Tampa and St. Petersburg, have been booked to play this year's Glastonbury Festival in England, one of the largest music festivals in the world.

"We are really thrilled to be playing the fest," cigar-box guitarist Lucy Tight said in an email. "Especially with Radiohead headlining."

Tight and her husband Wayne Waxing have spent a lot of their professional lives on the road, living out of an Airstream trailer and touring from their native Philadelphia to their new home base in Sarasota and everywhere in between.

The band is already planning to be on the road in Europe between June and September, playing clubs, house shows and, apparently, some of the biggest music events in the world.

"We played a bunch of fests in the U.K. last summer and word got around about us," Tight said. "We got invited to play Glastonbury and a number of other cool fests this summer, which we will announce in the next few months."

This year's Glastonbury is June 21-25. Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Kris Kristofferson are the only acts officially announced so far.

Feel free to congratulate Hymn For Her at one of their remaining local shows before heading to Glasto -- including a May 7 gig at Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe in Tampa. Click here for details.
