State Theatre update: Insane Clown Posse, more concerts moving back from Tampa to St. Petersburg

The revolving door of concerts at the State Theater is once again spinning.

Three of the concerts that moved from the State to the Cuban Club last week due to construction delays – Insane Clown Posse on Oct. 17, Superjoint on Oct. 19 and Lods of Acid on Oct. 20 – are now moving back to St. Petersburg.

General manager Kendra Marolf said the venue had reached an agreement with the fire marshal about the club’s new post-construction capacity, which she said is “greatly reduced” from before, but enough to handle those three shows.

“We’re really optimistic,” Marolf said. “We’re staying positive, we’re optimistic, and we’re all impressed with everyone who’s making sure we do the right thing for the bands and the fans while we’re going through this transition.”

Friday’s concert by Zakk Sabbath will remain at Jannus Live, and other upcoming shows could still be affected by the reduced capacity – including Conor Oberst on Oct. 21, and a sold-out show by Johnnyswim on Nov. 2. Marolf said they’re still working with the fire marshal and other parties to figure out the best solution.

“It depends on their sales and what the bands and promoters decide to do,” she said. “Everybody’s working really well to try to do the right thing by everyone.”
