Christmas, kind of

These three books offer rather revisionist looks at the holiday.

Adventures in Cartooning: Christmas Special (First Second) by James Sturm, Andrew Arnold and Alexis Frederick-Frost is a comic book for kids 6 and up about Santa's dismay at discovering the only presents children want are video games and gift cards.

Krampus: The Yule Lord (Harper Voyager) by Brom is a novel with illustrations about the ancient animosity between St. Nicholas and Krampus, the folk figure who punishes kids on Santa's naughty list — but may be something much darker.

Unholy Night (Grand Central) by Seth Grahame-Smith, perpetrator of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, recasts the story of the Three Wise Men with the Magi as notorious thieves fleeing prison when they meet the Holy Family and get involved in "the greatest story never told."
