Morean Arts Center offers animal artistry with two shows

We love our animals and at the Morean Arts Center this holiday season, there is a lot to love with two new pet-centric shows.

The big one is the annual holiday show, titled "Creature Comforts." It's a gift bazaar with ornaments, ceramics, paintings, photographs, prints, jewelry and decorative objects submitted by Arts Center members for sale. Note that though all are related in some way to animals, they aren't for animals, so bring your list of lucky recipients when you come to shop.

"BEAST: Portraits of Pets" includes the work of five pet photographers working in the west-central Florida region and they, too, are really fun. Shown is Laurie Meehan-Elmer's Bulldog Jump.

One and all are invited to a free opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. It coincides with the monthly Gallery Walk so many other venues will also be open.

If you miss the party, the center, 719 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and is free. or (727) 822-7872.
