Tre' McKitty becomes second Crusader to leave for IMG

Tampa Catholic tight end and Miami commit Tre' McKitty has transferred to IMG Academy, Crusaders coach Mike Gregory confirmed Friday.

McKitty is the second Crusader to depart for IMG this offseason. In January, four-star defensive end and Ohio State commit Malik Barrow transferred, leaving a huge hole on Tampa Catholic's defensive line. The pair represent a now long line of elite Tampa Bay players who have transferred to the Bradenton school.

McKitty, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound four-star recruit, had only been at Tampa Catholic for one semester, having transferred from Wesley Chapel in January. Gregory was looking forward to the impact McKitty would have made on both sides of the ball, and he stood out, particularly on defense, in the Crusaders' spring game against River Ridge.

But now, Gregory will have another hole to fill left by a transfer to IMG.

"It's difficult, but I know the draw. I understand the draw," Gregory said this spring, referring to Barrow's transfer. "It's hard to be mad at them because they're not doing anything that breaks the rules as it stands for them, but it is difficult to compete."
