Appraiser's offices to close during morning
The Hernando County property appraiser's offices will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon today for training purposes. Offices are at the Hernando County Government Center, Room 463, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, and at the Westside Government Center, 7525 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Call (352) 754-4190.
Backyard chicken permits available
The county has permit applications available for anyone interested in keeping as many as four backyard chickens — hens only — in areas zoned for single-family residential use. The applications are available on the county website: hernandocounty.us/bldg/applications.htm. Residents can also pick up application packets at the Hernando County Development Department at 789 Providence Blvd., Brooksville, or by calling (352) 754-4050.
St. Joseph's Day Feast is Saturday
Sons of Italy Nature Coast Lodge 2502 will host the annual St. Joseph's Day Feast Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way. The event kicks off with a Mass, followed by the feast in the hall, where a complimentary pasta Milanese dinner will be served. Flowers, St. Joseph bread and pastries will be available for purchase. Learn about food, health assistance
Healthy Families/Healthy Communities Night will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Springstead High School, 3300 Mariner Blvd. The event will showcase more than 30 agencies and organizations that offer assistance in areas such as mental health, medical care and food assistance. Education forum to give parents tips
The Black Educators Caucus will host an education forum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the South Brooksville Community Center, 601 Dr. M.L. King Jr. Blvd. There will be door prizes and lunch will be served. Parents can learn how to help their children succeed in school and on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test and about free tutoring.
