The Daily Drivers Update: 2017 Lexus LX570

An SUV quiz: Need to tow a boat or camper? Have a large family? Outings take you off the pavement? Oh, and do you appreciate some luxury? Then Lexus' large, three-row LX570 is your hauler. This behemoth is the answer to all of the above because it features a full-time four-wheel drive syst m Active Traction Control that responds to changing road conditions, as well as enough leather and wood grain for a luxury car. The 570's underpinnings are from the sturdy Toyota Land Cruiser architecture, so it has off-road in its DNA. Plus, its all-terrain features include a locking differential, crawl control, active height control and five drive modes. Need to tow? The LX 570 a towing capacity of up to 7,000 pounds. The cabin, which was starting to look dated, is now helped by a large 12.3-inch high-resolution split-screen display. We especially liked the optional leather-trimmed interior that's part of a luxury package. These oh-so-comfy seats are a good match for the 570's composed ride. For the kids, there is an optional dual-screen rear entertainment system. A few things we don't like: unlike some of the competition, the third row folds, but stows to the side, taking up storage space. That third row is a squeeze to get to and is best for kids. Also, fuel economy from the 5.7-liter V-8 (383 horsepower) is just 13 city and 18 highway. Gulp.

Lyra and Peter say: Ask yourself: Do you really need all the LX 570's off-road features and its towing capacity?
