Pasco schools see new direction for media, technology

A new direction for school technology

Pasco schools superintendent Kurt Browning wants to revamp the way the district handles instructional media and technology. And he's placed John Mann, assistant superintendent for curriculum over the past six months, in charge of the effort.

Mann, who retires at the end of the school year, will become the department director, with current director Wendy Spriggs acting in a supervisory role under his leadership.

"We plan to redesign the department so it fits with a future vision we have for media and technology, and how they can better fit with the schools," Ray Gadd, assistant superintendent for operations, said Wednesday. "It's going to look very, very different than it does now."

That effort will include more technology in the classroom, online acceleration and remediation, and computerized professional development. The plan is still developing, with officials looking at models from across the country.
