Former Gov. Charlie Crist could win as a moderate

Charlie Crist moved one step closer to launching a gubernatorial bid by registering Friday as a Democrat.

To succeed, Crist has to be himself. He can't tack too far to the left or flip-flop on key issues. He has to hope Democrats will accept him with enthusiasm and that maybe he's just what this moderate state wants. …

The Tampa/Hillsborough County Human Rights Council honored teen philanthropist Zach Bonner, Leto High student Ana Gomez, refugee advocate Rubis Castro, Brandon icon Julian Craft, Pastor Berhanu Bekele, Pepin Academies co-founder Crisha Scolaro and the Hillsborough County School Board at its annual breakfast.

The council Friday also inducted former County Commissioner Jan Platt, former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, former Tampa city employee Harold Clark and lawyer Warren Dawson into its Human Rights Hall of Fame.

    Brian Nelson Barrett, 42, of Wimauma, was headed north on I-275 in his Road Ranger truck Saturday morning 10/21/17 when a car hit him from behind, causing both vehicles to erupt in flames.
