Tampa man dies after motorcycle crash

TAMPA — A Tampa man died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday after he was ejected from his motorcycle late Friday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Russell Lee Watson, 22, was traveling east in the outside lane of Hillsborough Avenue west of Longboat Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his 1996 Honda motorcycle, the FHP said.

Watson, who was not wearing a helmet, drove off the road and onto the sidewalk. He was ejected from the motorcycle and taken to the hospital in critical condition, the FHP said. According to preliminary reports, alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
