Man, 36, dies in Zephyrhills skydiving accident

ZEPHYRHILLS — A 36-year-old skydiver died at Zephyrhills Municipal Airport on Monday after his parachute failed to open, according to police.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. The skydiver jumped with Skydive City, the parachuting center located at the airport, said Zephyrhills police Chief Derek Brewer.

The skydiver was not identified by police. He was an experienced parachutist, police said, with more than 250 jumps.

Investigators have not yet determined why his parachute did not open, the chief said. Police did not release any other details about the incident. Skydive City representatives said the company plans to issue a statement today.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident in conjunction with the Zephyrhills Police Department, the chief said.
