SAFETY HARBOR — Although the 200 animals inside the Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590, were evacuated, the shelter itself suffered significant damage; upwards of $15,000, according to officials there. The damage at the 70-year-old facility included destruction of the roof near the cat isolation area, the loss of aluminum overhangs, gutters and siding, as well as medical supplies including vaccines and prescription food. The facility, including the pet clinic, is closed until power is restored.
