Pinellas County to open cold night shelters on Sunday

Pinellas County will open cold night shelters for the homeless on Sunday as some of the coldest weather of the season moves in.

The shelters will open at 6 p.m. Sunday and close at 6 a.m. Monday. People who use the shelters will get a hot evening meal, a warm place to sleep and breakfast. Families with children will be placed in motels.

The shelters are: Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Ft. Harrison Ave., Clearwater; Boys & Girls Club of the Suncoast, 7790 61st St. N, Pinellas Park; Northwest Presbyterian Church, 6330 54th Ave. N, St. Petersburg; Salvation Army, 1400 Fourth St. S, St. Petersburg; The Turning Point, 1810 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg; and St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 812 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs.

A cold front sinking into the area will plunge overnight lows into the low 40s in Pinellas County tonight and into the 30s on Sunday night. High temperatures each day will struggle to reach 60.

Forecasters with Bay News 9 said the weather also will be windy with a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain over the weekend.
