Share road safely with motorcycles

I ride a motorcycle and am very careful when riding, but I can tell you that it infuriates me to see so many people (not just teenagers) texting instead of paying attention. Or, they weave in and out of traffic or speed just to cut in front of you.

I have lost five friends over the past six months to motorcycle accidents because someone wasn't looking and paying attention. If you are going to drive a car, leave your cellphone alone, pay attention to the traffic and stop speeding. Don't drive or ride while impaired and pay attention to the road. No texting, putting on make-up, reading for work, etc. And, stop speeding. The store will not run out of the item, and if they do, get a rain check.

Watch where you are going. We can all share the road safely.

Terri Kirchner, Hudson

Donate money instead of goods

Tons of relief items donated by well-meaning citizens are headed for the hurricane-stricken region in the Northeast. But, if past storm efforts hold true, much of the donated goods will end up rotting.

Warehouse space is at a premium because many buildings sustained heavy damage. Power remains out in numerous communities. Transportation is poor at best making distribution of goods very difficult. When things return to normal, tons of donated goods will end up in landfills.

This is why relief agencies prefer you donate money and let them distribute it to the storm victims to buy what they need. It may make you feel good to send clothing and other items to the stricken but it does them no good if they can't be distributed and end up being hauled to the dump.
