Roger Mooney's takeaways from Friday's Rays-Indians game

They win. They lose. They have a wild-card spot. They don't have a wild-card spot. This back-and-forth, heartburn-inducing, postseason spot-teasing season will continue for the Rays because all the other contenders have issues that will keep the pack tight for a while.

It's not unusual for a rookie pitcher to have a meltdown while throwing a gem, but what made the fifth inning so surprising for RHP Jacob Faria was the way he was able to work his way out of trouble and avoid big innings during his previous starts. Also, his defense didn't help him out.

What is it about Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco and Tropicana Field that turns him nearly into Nolan Ryan? He was one out away from a no-hitter in 2015. Remember Joey Butler? On Friday Carrasco retired the first 13 Rays then held them hitless until there were two outs in the seventh.
