AAC basketball tournament preview

AAC tournament

When/where: Today-Saturday; FedEx Forum, Memphis, Tenn.

Outlook: Any of the top five seeds is capable of winning. Cincinnati and Louisville, both 15-3 in league play, had to flip a coin for the No. 1 seed when all other tiebreaker formulas failed. Third-seeded SMU (23-8), poised for its first NCAA Tournament berth in 21 years, proved capable of defeating anyone (Cincinnati, UConn) or losing to anyone (Temple, USF).

USF: It will be interesting to see how hard the Bulls (12-19) play for coach Stan Heath, whose job appears in jeopardy with new AD Mark Harlan coming in. USF, losers of eight in a row, led Rutgers by 15 in the second half 11 days ago before falling 74-73. It's one of three games in the past 15 days in which the Bulls have blown at least a nine-point second-half lead.
