5 things to do under $5: Perseid meteor shower, pool party, historic church tour

1 Perseid Meteor Shower Night Walk: The annual summer night show of falling stars returns, and you can join a night walk on the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park trails followed by star and meteorite gazing (sky conditions permitting). Bring insect repellent and a chair or blanket. 8-10 p.m. Saturday. 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell. $3 per vehicle, or entry with annual park pass. (352) 793-4781.

2 Fun in the Sun Pool Party: Bring the family out for games, music and swimming in four pools at the New Port Richey Recreation and Aquatic Center. There will be a concession stand, or bring your own snacks and drinks (no glass containers or alcohol). 6-9 p.m. Saturday. 6630 Van Buren St., New Port Richey. $4, free for center members. 3 Alligator Walk: Search through the wetlands of St. Petersburg's Boyd Hill Nature Preserve for our state reptile and learn about its habitat, eating habits and other mysteries on a guided hike at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. 1101 Country Club Way S, St. Petersburg. $3, $1.50 children. (727) 893-7326.

4 Historic Church Tour: Docents will lead a free hourlong tour of the historic Sacred Heart Catholic Church, right, in Tampa featuring 18 stained glass windows and an Italian Carrara marble altar. 1:15 p.m. Sunday. 509 N Florida Ave., Tampa. (813) 991-0223.

5 Pier Beer Summer: One of the most contentious issues in St. Petersburg is aiming to bring the charm with a series of low-key gab sessions this summer. Grab a beer and a commemorative Pier cup and hear architects discuss the progress of the new Pier. 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday. Flying Boat Brewing Co., 1776 11th Ave. N, St. Petersburg. The next one will be Aug. 22 at Pinellas Ale Works, 1962 First Ave. S. Free (food/drink additional).
