David Larson Evans: On Being Human

The human figure, and the human experience, provide infinite possibilities for interpretation from artists. In his new exhibit, On Being Human, opening at St. Pete Artworks on Saturday, David Larson Evans captures the human figure in moments of stillness. The paintings portray the figure in repose, some serene, others contemplative. Swirling, drippy backgrounds add a nice dimension. The opening reception is Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Pete ArtWorks, 635 Central Ave. gcaa-fl.org.

Roll Call: Shine Mural Festival Artists

The popular Shine Mural Festival, now in its third year, returns to St. Pete walls Oct. 5-14, and festival curators have announced the list of participating artists. Similar to past years, the roster is a mix of local, national and international artists. Earlier this summer, an Open Wall Call went out to local artists to vie for their own mural in the festival. The winner was John Suarez, a graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design, who goes by the moniker Suarezart. Five other bay area artists are also on the list: Jujmo, Zulu Painter, Herbert Scott Davis, Jared "Thirst" Hernandez and R5 (Daniel Barojas). Artists from far and wide will also bring their skills to the Burg, including Cryptik (Los Angeles), Joram Roukes (Netherlands) and Waone (Ukraine). In total, 15 walls and one underpass will be transformed into works of art. Stay updated at shineonstpete.com.

    Cooking

I recoil at the repentant food chatter that crops up this time of year, dominated by words such as "cleanse" and "detox," which, from what I can tell, are just modern code for "extreme diet." But part of cultivating a healthy, balanced life is recognizing when you have been pushing the edges in one direction and then …

When author Michael Wolff was interviewed on the Today show about his book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, Savannah Guthrie asked him how he felt about President Donald Trump's attacks on it. Wolff responded, "Where do I send the box of chocolates?"

  3. We tried eating the recommended serving of fruit and vegetables for a week, and it was harder than we thought

    Cooking

I sat at my desk eating chunked pineapple straight out of the can, reading about how much fruit and vegetables we should all be eating every day: 1 1/2 to two cups of fruit, 2 1/2 to three cups of vegetables, at a minimum, per the United States Department of Agriculture. But only a small portion of us are working that …

It's barely been a year since Steve Martin and Martin Short last brought their roadshow to town. But there was never a doubt in their minds they'd be back.

TAMPA — Tampa Repertory Theatre's Gnit strikes gold for theatergoers who appreciate deadpan wit, clever wordplay and incisive commentary on the human condition.
