  2. 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' teaser trailer brings another heroine to the galaxy (w/video)

This week apparently didn't have enough geek in it, so Disney and Lucasfilm decided to drop off an early Christmas present.

The teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit the internet Thursday monring and every news site is buzzing about it. In the minute and change clip, we get Hong Kong action legend Donnie Yen wielding a staff, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker narrating/monologuing like he's starring in King Lear, and Felicity Jones channeling her inner Katniss Everdeen to rebel -- even against the Rebellion....

Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) stars as Jyn Erso in the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

    Relax, college hockey fans.

After a season full of scrapbook-worthy victories, your team has landed at the NCAA Frozen Four — which means you get a two-fer.

On top of the one-in-four chance that you'll see your captain hoisting the trophy, the big games are happening Thursday and Saturday at the Amalie Arena in sunny Tampa Bay. The last three winners had to brave Boston, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh — not exactly known for their beaches. Our hometown is also home to good food, interesting local bands and art that you can't see anywhere else. ...

  4. St. Petersburg's Justin Hires hits big on CBS's 'Rush Hour'

Justin Hires sat in a dressing room Wednesday morning preparing to head out in front of the live audience of CBS's The Talk and — like always — be funny.

Now, at center stage on a network talk show, Hires had the chance to show off 10 years of hard work. He's starring in the TV reboot of the successful martial arts comedy franchise, Rush Hour, playing the role made popular by Chris Tucker. The show debuts tonight on CBS....

  5. Civil rights leader John Lewis celebrates Pulitzer Centennial at Poynter

When that Greyhound bus arrived in Montgomery, Ala., more than 50 years ago, the protesters beat the journalists first, recalled U.S. Rep. John Lewis.

"It was very dangerous to be a reporter," said the Georgia Democrat and civil rights leader. "If you had a pencil and a pad and if you had cameras, they would take the cameras and smash the cameras. And I saw reporters and photographers left lying in the street bleeding. And then they turned on us."...

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., shown here in 2013, was a prominent activist in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. He will offer the keynote address at the Pulitzer Centennial celebration Thursday.
  6. My Outfit Monday: Easter weekend dress sales are a near religious experience

I knew I needed a white dress for Easter, so I trekked to the old faithfuls, J.C. Penney and Marshall's last week.

The sale at Penney's yielded me a great little white lace number for $26 with a coupon, but it was the haul I picked up a Marshall's that reminded me of the magic that is an Easter sale. On the Marshall's dress clearance rack sat this lonesome navy/gold accent Sharagano shirt dress looking for a home. ...

Me, so happy I can afford to eat lunch after the damage I did shopping this weekend.
  7. From 'Star Trek' to Maya Angelou to Sarah Vaughan stamps, a look behind the scenes

    Pop Culture

In a world where Americans increasingly prefer emojis to mail, there's still a market for old fashioned postage — especially the special kind.

Even as the U.S. Postal Service loses billions annually, postage stamps remain a revenue generator. The agency will roll out a new stamp featuring jazz great Sarah Vaughan on Tuesday, making it the fifth commemorative stamp release of 2016. It comes two days after what would have been the singer's 92nd birthday....

The U.S. Postal Service lost $1.25 million with the Simpsons TV show stamps portraying from left, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie.
  8. Second City comedians bring The Realish Housewives of South Tampa to Straz Center May 31

Purse dogs and air kisses for everyone, darlings.

Comics from Chicago's famed Second City improv are bringing a satirical romp through Bravo TV's most recognizable reality franchise to the Straz Center for the performing arts this May.

The Realish Housewives of South Tampa: A Parody is a stage play that tells the story of  the vaguely foreign baroness Rovanka, shady Claudia Louise, neck model Desiree, tycoon Brooke and Everyman Gwen as they try and live out their lives in Tampa's ritzy enclave. ...

  9. Tampa Pride couple have special motivation in their son

John and Nancy Desmond sat in the Hampton Inn lobby smiling kindly and sifting nimbly through a stack of colorful postcards. Both 64, only his white beard and her squint through her glasses betrayed their age.

More than 600 of the cards were mailed to colleges around the U.S., promising sunshine, beaches and enough gay pride fun to make Tampa the ideal inclusive spring break destination. ...

Nancy Desmond, left, and her husband, John, have been involved with the gay community since their son came out to them five years ago. They were in attendance for an organizational meeting for the Tampa Pride celebration taking place in Ybor City.
  10. Go green: A five senses guide to Tampa Bay St. Patrick's Day parties

The wave of green washing over Tampa Bay places the city firmly in the company of America's metropolis in honoring one of the Emerald Isle's most well-known exports.

WalletHub, a consumer information and research website, named Tampa the nation's sixth best city for celebrating St. Patrick's Day — making it the only Southern city in the top 10.

    And why wouldn't it?

There's no Irish population correlation between Tampa Bay's commitment to wearing green and drinking lots, said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, who has worked to raise the St. Pat's spirit in his town....

  12. 'The Bachelor,' Season 20, Episode 11: Lying to women who love you for sport

Fact: Hearts are always broken on The Bachelor

But this finale was brutal. JoJo, honey, we love you -- even if Ben doesn't.

Thanks for being the type of girl who asks the questions we all do when we break up with someone.

    "Where did it go wrong?"

    "What doubts do you have?"

"Why did you tell me you loved me?"

JoJo was so obviously in love with Ben that even his parents, Amy and Dave, felt impressed by her. "She has fallen in love with you and considers you almost a best friend," said Dave. ...

Lauren B. and Ben are engaged and preparing to fade into obscurity.
  13. Adam Lambert cancels tonight's show at Ruth Eckerd Hall

An unidentified illness has tanked the Pi Day plans of Tampa Bay's Adam Lambert fan base.

The singer canceled his The Original High tour date scheduled for Monday night at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on doctor's orders.

Lambert needs at least 48 hours rest to prevent serious vocal damage, according to a release from Ruth Eckerd Hall.

There was no announcement rescheduling the gig, but refunds are being offered at the point of sale. Lambert's next performance is scheduled for Thursday on Fox's American Idol.  ...

  14. Attention Whovians, Bronies and Potterheads: A guide to Central Florida's 2016 cons

This might be the easiest year to be a fan in human history.

Just about every off-kilter thing you can love unconditionally has its own fan convention in 2016, which is good for your obsession but probably less so for your pockets.

Convention season started last weekend in Orlando with the Omni Expo and CONjure events drawing hundreds to see former Dino Thunder Power Rangers Jeff Parazzo and Kevin Duhaney and The 100's Dichen Lachman. Stalwarts of the Central Florida con scene have rolled out heavy hitting lineups featuring everyone from comic creator and legend Stan Lee to The Vampire Diaries' super hunk Ian Somerhalder. ...

The 57-year-old Boca Ciega High School alumna joined the March 1 taping of comedian Chris Hardwick's podcast to promote her new film, London Has Fallen, featuring Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart.

In the hour she spent talking with the show hosts, she brought up her love of the TV show Shark Tank, using her acting skills (real tears!) to psych out her kids, and meeting her heroes (Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep and Kathy Bates) in the course of her long career. ...
